About the Arcade and Downtown Nashville
Downtown Nashville, the dawning of a renaissance in architecture, commerce and of course, art. Viewed for sometime now as an up-and-coming center for arts, this location continues to expand and evolve, more rapidly in this past year than previously witnessed. Right at the heart of downtown Nashville, co-resident with the historic Printers Alley and numerous bars and clubs, as well as museums and lofts and newly-built condominiums, is the Nashville Arcade. This early American mall opened in 1903 became one of the first shopping centers in North America . When originally opened, the Arcade hosted some of America ’s premier retail stores. Its Greek revival architecture continues to catch first glimpse and fascinate passers by of all ages and backgrounds. Located in the heart of the financial district, this great historic structure is within walking distance of numerous downtown hotels, financial institutions, the Music City Hall of Fame , the public library, the Nashville Convention center and of course Fifth Avenue, a truly unique part of the town, home to the arts and entertainment industry. A new addition to the Arcade , #83 (located above Walgreen’s facing Fifth Avenue), is a new addition to the art district – Dangenart Gallery.
